On-Site Walkthrough & Written Estimate
We walk the interior with you, look at existing conditions, and talk through how you use each room.
Based on that, we recommend paint and primer systems at different budget levels, outline the prep
standard for your project, and provide a clear written estimate before any work is scheduled.

Surface Protection & Repairs
We mask and cover floors, furniture, and fixtures so only the surfaces scheduled for paint are exposed.
Then we repair drywall and plaster, retexture patched areas where needed, sand rough spots smooth, and
caulk gaps at trim and casing. All prep is done to our interior finish standard so the new paint lays
down clean and even instead of highlighting old defects.

Prime & Paint for Each Room
We match primers and paints to the actual surfaces and rooms we’re working in—drywall, trim, doors,
previously painted walls, stained wood, kitchens, baths, and ceilings all get the right system for
adhesion and durability. Then we apply full, even coats to manufacturer specs so color and sheen are
consistent and the finish meets our interior standard: smooth, clean, and free of obvious roller marks,
misses, or defects.

help_center Interior Painting FAQs — Bellingham, WA
How much does interior painting cost in Bellingham, WA?
For a typical interior repaint in Bellingham in reasonable condition, a fair range is $4–$5 per paintable square foot of wall and ceiling surface. Heavier prep, drywall repairs, or additional coats will land toward the higher end. We provide a detailed written estimate before any work is scheduled. See our full Bellingham painting prices page for more detail.
What should I look for when hiring interior painters in Bellingham?
Look for a licensed, bonded, and insured Washington State contractor — verify their license at the WA Department of Labor & Industries. Ask for a written scope of work that specifies what surfaces are being painted, what prep is included, which products are used, and how many coats. A reputable Bellingham painting contractor will walk the space with you before quoting and put all of that in writing. Ellwanger Painting is WA Licensed (ELLWAPL779QL), bonded, insured, and EPA RRP certified for lead-safe work.
How do I get an interior painting estimate in Bellingham?
You can book a free estimate online or call us at 360-389-2829. We schedule an on-site walkthrough, review conditions room by room, discuss coating options at different budget levels, and provide a written estimate before any work is scheduled — no pressure, no surprise add-ons.
Do you offer low‑VOC interior paint?
Yes — low-odor, low-VOC options are available for healthier indoor air quality. We can recommend the right finish for each room based on use and traffic.
How long does a typical interior repaint take in Bellingham?
A 2–3 bedroom home typically takes 3–5 days depending on prep, repairs, and coating selections. We work room by room to minimize disruption in occupied homes.
Are you lead‑safe certified for older Bellingham homes?
Yes. Ellwanger Painting is EPA RRP certified for lead-safe work on pre-1978 homes — proper containment, HEPA cleanup, and legal disposal. Many older Bellingham and Whatcom County homes were built before 1978, and we follow all required protocols to protect your family during interior painting work.
Do you move or protect furniture during interior painting?
Yes. We protect floors and furniture and can assist with moving light items before work begins. We work in occupied homes regularly and take care of your belongings throughout the project.
Do you paint commercial interiors in Bellingham?
Yes — we paint offices, clinics, studios, retail spaces, and other commercial interiors throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County. We can work around business hours and plan around your schedule to minimize disruption to staff and customers.
Which paint brands do you use for interior painting?
We primarily use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams premium interior lines — both widely available in Bellingham at local paint stores. We select the specific product based on the surface, sheen, and use case for each room. We do not use budget-grade paints on our projects.
